New Delhi, July 6: Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, Ameer (National President) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind accompanied with three national secretaries Mohammad Salim Engineer, Mohammad Ahmed and Intezar Naeem (Asst. Secretary) addressed the monthly press conference today at the headquarters of the Jamaat.

Ameer-e Jamaat presented the views of the Jamaat on various national and international issues including the military coup in Egypt, CBI probe into Ishrat Jahan encounter, Waqf bill and US surveillance.

Below is the brief of the statement distributed among the pressmen at the press conference.

The sacking of elected democratic government of President Dr. Mohammad Morsi by the Egyptian military is illegal, un-Islamic, murder of democracy and conspiracy of anti-Islam internal and external forces. In one year rule, President Dr. Mohammad Morsi had made laudable improvements at both internal and external fronts. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind appeals to the people of Egypt to think if an elected democratic and constitutional government is better or military regime, if military should be given right to rule the country instead of protecting the borders.

CBI probe into Ishrat Jahan fake encounter

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind congratulates Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the honest probe into the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter chargesheeting five IPS officers for the June 15, 2004 killing of Mumbai college student Ishrat Jahan along with three other persons in Ahmedabad. We demand CBI to expose all – IB officials and political leaders – who were directly or indirectly involved with the daylight cold blooded murders. We also demand the Central government to order fresh probe into all encounters in recent years in which a number of Muslim youths were killed in different parts of the country including Delhi, UP and Maharashtra.

Devaluation of Rupee

The sharp downward trend in the exchange rate of Rupee is on account of rising Current Account Deficit (CAD) which shows that our imports are rising faster than our exports. The solutions that the government is presenting comprise increasing inflow of fund from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and relaxing cap on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). But these steps are not bearing results. The case of FDI is sensitive and its desirability and extent should be deliberated upon at length before any decision to relax the existing cap on them. It should be ensured that East India Company’s syndrome is not repeated. Our correct mode is to look at the strength of our own economic fundamentals. There is need to adopt more basic economics and see what can be done to increase our production and export and what checks are required on imports.

 US Surveillance & Snooping

The surveillance by US National Security Agency of 38 diplomatic missions including India and some Muslim countries has posed threats to the freedom and privacy of these nations as NSA is not only keeping an eye on India and other countries but also obtained millions and trillions of documents. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind takes this surveillance and snooping as not only an immoral act but also an illegal and criminal one on the part of the United States.

Protection of Awqaf

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expresses deep concerns at illegal occupation by central and state governments of hundreds of waqf properties across the country. In 65years of Independence no serious legislation has been made to protect waqf properties. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind demands that incoming Waqf Bill 2010 must have provisions to: a) Ensure protection of waqf properties; b) Recover illegally occupied waqf properties after Independence; c) Return the sold out waqf properties to waqf boards; d) Empower waqf boards to recover pending crores of rupees of rents; and f) Allow namaz in all the mosques that are under Archaeological Survey of India.

The Judgment of Madras High Court

The recent judgment of Madras High Court supporting live-in relationship and legalizing premarital sex has sent shockwaves throughout the country. India had certain moral standards with regard to sexual relations, and Islam has made a significant contribution towards this. Marriage was always respected as a social and moral bonding without which sex was decried and prohibited. Marriage is an extended bond between two families and the safest method of safeguarding the interest of husband, wife and their children. Live-in relationship will increase the chances of crimes against women, suicides, abortion and psychiatric illness and mental disorder in their next generations. There is need of a thorough overhaul of our society and a strong dose of morality and religion to stop the society from destruction. In this regard our judiciary has to play a vital role as an important guardian of law and order and society.

Uttarakhand Flood Devastations

The devastating rain and flood in Uttarakhand has caused huge loss to human life and properties. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expresses deep sympathy with victims of Uttarakhand. Since the day one, a team of UP (West) zone of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind comprising specialist doctors and volunteers is rendering its services to the victims. Other teams of Jamaat are doing relief work in Haridwar and surveying affected people in Dehradun and Rishikesh so that they could also be helped as per their need.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind demands that the central and state governments should find out human errors behind the tragedy, indifferent attitude of officials and shortcomings in the planning. It is the duty of the government to protect life and property of the people, so there should be a tight vigil that mere on the basis of beliefs people do not make constructions at the banks of rivers or in the rivers and put their life in danger.
