Mera Aanchal Meri Pehchan: A Unique Celebration of Womanhood

A grand Women’s Conference and Cultural Festival

The woman is the bedrock of the family. The Prophet ﷺ has stated that ‘The best among you is the one who treats his wives and daughters well’. But what we instead find being practised in our surroundings today is quite disturbing. The shameless exploitation of womanhood has given rise to a number of problems in our society. The very existence of mankind is now hinged upon the solution to these problems. It is with this urgent need in mind that the Ladies Wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) and the Girls’ Islamic Organization (GIO) have embarked upon a Women’s Conference and Cultural Festival titled ‘MeraAanchalMeriPehchan’ at the YMCA ground on the 16th and 17th of December 2017.

The purpose of this conference is to make the Muslim ladies aware of Islamic culture and etiquette, to make them conscious of their expected role in society, to make the young generation sentinels of Islamic values, to strengthen the family system and to work shoulder to shoulder with our non-Muslim sisters to address our common issues. This Conference would prove to be an important milestone in ideologically as well as practically preparing Muslim ladies to safeguard and promote Islamic creed and culture in their homes and surroundings. We expect that this endeavour would encourage our coming generations to value and safeguard the Islamic legacy.

Preparations are in full swing since a month, and by God’s grace, about 7000 ladies and girl students have already registered for this conference. Various competitions on topics ranging from video making to animation, essay writing, drawing, slogan writing, henna, best-out-of-waste, sheerkhurma, cooking-without-fire and food plating have been organized in various schools and community centres all around the city- in Saki Naka, Millat Nagar, Cheetah Camp, Malad, Kurla, Nallasopara, Mira Road, Byculla, Pathanwadi, Malad and Vashi- in which hundreds of enthusiastic girls and ladies have participated. All these participants would be given certificates during the Conference and the winning candidates would be presented with trophies and cash prizes.

An Islamic Exhibition would be held at this Conference which would be inaugurated by Mrs Salma Lokhandwala, Director, Anjuman Islam group of Schools. Apart from this, numerous informative stalls and cultural programs have also been organized. Dignitaries like Mrs Fakhirah (Member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Central Advisory Council), Mrs ArifaParveen (Nazima, Gujarat zone) and Dr AsmaZohra (Hyderabad) are slated to speak at the conference. Successful Muslim ladies would be presented as role models. The contemporary issues faced by ladies would be addressed by Mrs PratibaNathani, Mrs Varsha Vilas and Advocate Farhana Shah.

While elaborating upon the details of the Conference, Mrs Salma Baig (President of JIH Mumbai’s Ladies Wing) explained that every individual is a unit of society. A good person always leads a responsible life. He keeps striving for the progress and development of the people, employing all his intellectual, physical and financial resources for this purpose. The role of Muslim women is very important in this regard. She invited all citizens of Mumbai to attend this Conference and contribute towards its success.
