“Islam is not only Relevant today, it is a Requirement”, avers JIH Vice President

Murtuzapur, Akola

Speaking at the three day Tazkiya camp organized for the post holders of JIH Maharashtra, the Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Nusrat Ali sahab emphasized that Iqamate Deen was not a concept restricted by time and space- everyone should strive for it wherever he may be and whenever he gets the opportunity for it. It was the _raison d’être_ of sending messengers and it is now our responsibility. He was certain that Islam can never be defeated on the ideological platform; hence the enemies have resorted to spreading false propaganda like ‘Rise of Political Islam’ and founding shadow ‘Islamic organisations’ that only work to sully Islam’s image. He cautioned that the youth is being misguided by false interpretations of Islamic movements on social media, lamenting that the internet is a potent weapon in the hands of the enemies of Islam. But he also expressed hope in the observation that the world had denounced all past false philosophies in this ‘Post-truth’ era, giving us an opportune moment to fill the void with the Islamic guidance.

The President of JIH Maharashtra, Mr. Taufeeq Aslam Khan sahab, in his inaugural address, explained that Iqamate deen is the preserve of those smart and courageous people who give preference to the Hereafter. He said that facing problems is a part and parcel of this task and God would reward us for being patient and steadfast. He advised the audience to remain abreast of the Jamaat’s regular resolutions to confidently face these problems.

The Juma’a sermon was delivered by Maulana Waliullah Sayeedi Falahi sahab, sec. Tarbiyah, JIH in which he elaborated upon the higher meaning of fulfilling the rights of God and that of fellow human beings.

The session following lunch was reserved for a Panel Discussion on the grooming of JIH affiliates on an individual level. Aziz Mohiuddin sb, Dr. Javed Mukarram, Mateen Shaikh sb, Zafar Ansari sb and Mrs. Sajidah Parveen expressed their views on the questions raised by the coordinator, Anwar Hussain sb. The points that came out of the discussion were:
a. The Jamaat’s syllabus is good but it is not being properly implemented.
b. Although the state of our members is better than those of other organizations, we still have a long way to go.
c. Members do not appear to be very cautious with their financial affairs.
d. Our literature is dry and cold, with very little emotional value.
e. The members are not as influential and are no longer seen as role models in society.
f. Most members are not showing any inclination towards learning and self-assessment.

While commenting upon the discussion, Nusrat Ali sahab stressed that it was the responsibility of the Jamaat to groom its affiliates and bring out the best out of its members’ skills and resources.

The final session of the day witnessed two inspiring speeches. The first one was by Dr. Ismail Shaikh on ‘Our Progress in Knowledge- it’s Importance and Methodology’ in which he discussed the various aspects of knowledge and our stagnancy in coming up with new theories and paradigms. He said that we need to focus on Research Methodology and keep updating our knowledge. He explained that this can happen only when we have an aversion to the prevalent knowledge base and have a desire to develop a viable alternative to replace it on the basis of sound knowledge.

The final address for the day was delivered by Maulana Waliullah Sayeedi Falahi sb in which he spoke of the steps taken by JIH to groom the members and how they can be effectively implemented. He warned the audience against falling prey to pretentiousness but also explained how divulging your deeds to the public is also needed at certain platforms. He also dwelt on practical grooming in the field and developing our skillset.

The second day of the Tazkiya Camp began with a physical exercise drill soon after fajr prayers under the guidance of Dr. Zaid Hamza.

The first session this morning was a series of paper presentations on various ideologies prevalent in the world today. The first paper was presented by Br. Salman, President SIO South Maharashtra on Liberalism. Liberalism, he explained, believed that man is free of all bondages and he should remain so. Nothing is ‘true’ in the absolute sense. Every idea is an opinion/ a narrative. An outcome of Freudian and Darwinism, irreligiousness and man’s own hypocrisy, the manifestations of Liberalism include family breakdowns, pornography, live-in relationships, homosexuality and the eventual idea that gender is itself a subjective orientation. An erudite critical analysis on the topic and the fear of God, he hoped, would root out Liberalism from society.

Br. Azharuddin spoke on Capitalism and Consumerism. He lamented that unbridled consumerism is driving even rich people into debt, consuming precious time and leading to greed. He contrasted this mentality with the Islamic concept of economics which advocates a responsible spending of one’s money without being either niggardly or being a spendthrift.

The third and final paper was presented on the Hindu Nationalist Movement by Dr. Salim Khan sb. He pointed out that we have many factors in common with our contemporary saffron movement in the sense that both are ideology based, have similar resources and opportunities and both have to deal with organizational issues and problems. He explained the history and philosophy of Fascism and expressed hope in the continued resistance of Muslims to the fascist deluge.

These papers were followed by a symposium on the upcoming Dawah Campaign. Aslam Gazi sb, Shabiuzzaman sb and Wajid Ali Khan sb spoke on Peace, Progress and Prosperity respectively.

The post-lunch session hosted a panel discussion on The Ideological and Practical Challenges faced by the Islamic Movement. The ideology of the Jamaat, its effective propagation and its penetration among the masses were some of the points on which the discussion revolved. The panelists were unanimous that we need to involve the entire Ummat, cleanse history of fascist interpretations and provide alternative modes of development to the public to fight Fascism. In his ensuing comments, Maulana Waliullah Sayeedi Falahi sb said that we should also discuss how Islam could be seen as a challenge to anti-Islam forces.

After maghrib, the participants of the camp were divided into 8 groups and collective study sessions of the Qur’an were conducted on lines of a specified format. The ayaat chosen for the study dealt with the need for man to see his reflection in the Qur’an.

The concluding speech, ‘An Ideal Islamic Revolutionary’ was delivered by Maulana Waliullah Sayeedi Falahi sb. He enlisted the qualities of an ideal Muslim as: strength of creed and faith, worshipping God in the best manner, passion for the cause, impressive character, time management, physical health and sustaining ourselves on permissible sources of income.

The day concluded with a literary program where poets enthralled the audience with their compositions in Urdu and English.

After fajr and the exercise drill the third morning, Dr. Javed Mukarram sb delivered a Dars Qur’an, stressing on the ill of having a stingy soul. Nusrat Ali sb spoke on ‘JIH- Where we stand today and the Way Ahead’. He averred that if we can’t produce and present practical models of our ideology, our ideology would remain relegated to books. He also expressed hope that the Post-Modern Age would translate into the Islamic Age. The Vice President of JIH also laid down a long term plan for 2040.

The participants then divided themselves into 10 groups to discuss our intellectual, practical and spiritual position in society and the President of JIH Maharashtra presented an expert opinion on their observations.

The special edition of Shodhan Magazine was inaugurated on this occasion, 27000 copies of which have been published for the upcoming Dawah Campaign.

The morning session for the day concluded with a soul stirring lecture by Maulana Waliullah Sayeedi Falahi sb. He remained the audience of the selfless sacrificed of the Sahaba and explained that we should always be hopeful and optimistic, because it is God who has chosen us for this task.

After lunch, the participants took part in an interactive open session with the leadership. The President of JIH Maharashtra and the Vice President of JIH offered their parting advice to the audience before the curtains were drawn on this annual rejuvenating Tazkiya Camp.

As is the hallmark of all JIH programs, each of the three sessions began with a recitation of the Qur’an and the lessons derived from it. The intervals between the sessions saw the JIH leaders engaging in many an informal candid discussion with the camp members.
