The Study Group of JIH Maharashtra- a pool of research scholars constituted to equip the Jamaat’s decision-making bodies with well-researched studies on a wide spectrum of contemporary issues- organized a two-day colloquium ‘Burning Social Problems and Soothing Solutions’ this weekend, in which one but twenty research scholars presented their papers on an array of important topics like Social Transition, Education and Literature, Religion and Spirituality, Economic Challenges and Opportunities and Socio-Political Fascism to an auditorium bursting at the seams with academically inclined men and women pouring in from all parts of the state.

After the customary address and introduction, the colloquium began with the first technical session, which saw 5 research scholars presenting their papers on the strategies of social groups in the state, a quantitative data analysis of our cadre’s relationship with the Qur’an’, problems and challenges of Auqaf, a feasibility report on running an effective media house and the pros and cons of bifurcating the state organization. Mr. Taufeeq Aslam Khan, President of JIH Maharashtra, presided over this session and concluded it with his insightful comments.

The post-lunch session was dedicated to education and literature. It included papers on RTE implementation, the status of educational institutions, the mass penetration of ideological movements through literature and a Qur’anic perspective on personality development. This session concluded with expert comments from Dr. Muhammad Rafat, Professor at Jamia Milia Islamia. A brainstorming session on Burning Problems and Pressing Issues, which followed next, allowed the audience to put across their views and suggestions on the papers presented that day.

The next morning began with papers on the idea of religion, sustainable spirituality, importance of spirituality in the material world and the relevance of religion in the post-modern era. SIO members shared the stage with Vedic scholar Dr. Bhagwat Guruji in this interesting session.

Spirituality was soon complemented with worldly opportunities and challenges, with erudite papers being presented on conventional microfinance, interest-free banking (by Mr. Irfan Shahid), a case study on Sahoolat Microfinance (by TISS Prof. Anjali Kulkarni) and the concept of sustainable economic development. Dr. Shakeel presided over this session.

The final session of the colloquium discussed the socio-political effect of Fascism on Indian judiciary and administration, which was summed up by Mr. Mujtaba Farooq, GS of Muslim Majlise Mushawarat, in his presidential remarks.

After all these research papers had been presented, the house was opened to enlist the participants’ suggestions on what should be the role and methodology of this Study Group in the immediate and latent future, and how they can contribute to it in their individual and collective capacities. The papers presented here, and henceforth, would be reviewed by the consultative body of the state, allowing them to formulate bold and informed strategies towards the realization of their goal- the establishment of a society governed by divine principles.
