22 Dec, Cheeta Camp, Around one thousand youngsters and youth participated in much hyped mini marathon as conclusion of 10 days long Anti-drugs Campaign of Jama’at e Islami Hind, Cheet Camp unit.

Such was the enthusiasm of participants that they gathered in large numbers even before sunrise and schedule at the starting point, Trombay. Organisers have whole heartedly encouraged them to participate in a marathon that has given them a loud and clear message that they should keep off from drugs addiction.

There were two groups consisting of Juniors (young runners) under 16 years and another one dream runners above 16. As there was no upper limit for senior group even senior citizens ran and got a big applause from the spectators. There was 6 km run from Trombay Koligaon to Anushakti Nagar and Back and 4 km run for juniors up to BARC colony Mandala gate and back. Being slum area and very few youth get chance to participate in organised sports event and hardly have any space for such activities, this marathon,(only second in the history of the area) has created a great interest and awareness. Many participants have started practicing since registration 15 days ago. Parents brought their ward to force entry after due date and organisers were left with no choice but to oblige. Trombay police station and traffic police at BARC flyover chowki has shown exemplary support and great deal in ensuring its peace full organisation.

Shri Nawab Malik, NCP MLA and former state Minister was chief guest and Afzal Baig, President Jamate Islami Hind, Mumbai Metro was Guest of Honour. Qaisar Khalid, Addl commissioner of Police, Eastern region excused in the last minute due to Narendra Modi Rally at BKC. Winners of dream Runner is declared as Mohammed Aquib, Runner up Bhushan Koli and second runner up is Anees Ahmed, Rs five thousand, three thousand five hundred and two thousand cash, Trophy medal and certificate were given respectively.

For young runners Saifee Shakeel Ahmed received the first prize Rs. 3000/- cash and trophy, gold medal and a certificate, runner up being Shaikh Noor Mohammed, cash Rs. 2000/- and second runner up J Jaykumar getting 1000/- in cash along with trophy medal and certificate.

One most significant part of the marathon was its organizing team, itwas Consisting of educated professionals of the locality who volunteered all their professional skills to make the event a great success. Noorullah Khan was Chief Organiser and Faraz Khan, Wahid Khan, Zubair Shaik, Rizwan Shaikh, M Ali, Faheem Zamir Khan being the force behind its great success. ShriNawab Malik has guided and helped in many ways to make it happen. First prize of dream runner was sponsored by A Basheeruddin, an industrialist. One thousand T shirts were sponsored by Neptune Group.
