Islamic Centre, Mira Road

A free Blood Group testing camp was held at the Islamic Centre this morning under the aegis of the Social Service wing of JIH, Mira Road. Around 50 odd people benefited from this camp and their contact details were registered for future correspondence.

This noble endeavour was part of an initiative by the Mira Road chapter of JIH to create and maintain a permanent data base of prospective blood donors who could be directly approached as and when the need arises. This database would be sorted according to Blood groups, so the next time anyone needs blood for transfusion, they can contact the Islamic Centre which would furnish them with contact details of possible donors as per the required blood group. The Centre would also actively participate in approaching and directing the donor to the concerned hospital.

This database is expected to be immensely beneficial in emergencies, especially in a township as diverse and densely populated as Mira Road. Certain blood groups are particularly rare to find, and the time elapsed in finally finding a suitable donor leads to the loss of precious lives. Catering to all people, irrespective of their religion or creed, this unique programme, once operational, will definitely prove to be a boon for the residents of Mira Road and beyond.
