August 6, Thursday, JIH Kurla

The weekly ijtema on August 6th of the JIH Kurla unit was addressed by the learned scholar Muhammad Aslam Gazi sahab. Topic chosen was ‘Current Affairs, Justice and Equity,’ which saw a fully-packed audience gathering at the venue.

The renowned speaker began with the definition of Justice and Equity, thereby moving on to explaining the Fundamental Rights of an Indian Citizen given to him by the Indian Constitution and listing each one of it:
1. Right to Equality
2. Right to Freedom
3. Right against Exploitation
4. Right to freedom of religion
5. Cultural and Educational rights
6. Right to constitutional remedies

And the recently added Right to Education

Each of the fundamental right was discussed in great detail with the articles of the Constitution dealing with it also delved upon.

The speaker asserted that though Right to freedom of religion is a fundamental right, but we see it being violated in our present day society. Similarly, right to equality gives equality of opportunity in matters of employment but this also is not visible in the current scenario. A report from India Today recent edition was cited with few figures from the same.

Courts and their functioning was explained in the Indian Legal system and also the types of cases, as civil and criminal.
The speaker urged the Muslim youth to come forward and obtain the best education possible and participate in changing the status quo. Also, he reiterated the idea of working together with peace-loving like-minded members of all communities for getting Justice and Equity for all the Indian citizens.

Post the lecture, Janab Tariq read a few pages from the Urdu translation of the book “Deen mein Tarjeehat” authored by renowned Egyptian Islamic theologian and reformer Yusuf al-Qaradawi. Following the dua from Almighty, the session came to its end.
