30th July Mumbai: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra continues with its Relief work in flood-ravaged Chiplun. The state President has personally taken stock of the situation.

Mumbai: On the 28th and 29th of July, JIH President Rizwanur Rahman, along with Vice-Precident Syed Zameer Qadri, visited Konkan and inspected Chiplun, Mahad and other surrounding towns that have been destroyed by the floods. They spoke to the flood victims and assured them of all possible support.

Meetings were held with several social workers and heads of community centres and NGOs to discuss plans of rehabilitation.

Mr. Rizwanur Rahman averred that all social organizations need to come together and co-operate with each other to achieve this end. This would ensure that every flood victim receives his due, and that no deserving person is left out. During his visit, he also announced that Jamaat-e-Islami Hind would spend ₹1,50,00,000 (One crore 50 Lac rupees) towards this rehabilitation project. Those who have lost their livelihood in this calamity would be helped in restarting their businesses. Also, those houses which have been destroyed or partially damaged would be reconstructed/repaired. A proper survey has been initiated to facilitate this process.

Following the devastating floods in Chiplun last week, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Maharashtra had commenced with relief work on the 23rd of July itself. The JIH cadre is being assisted in this task by members of Ideal Relief Committee Trust, IRW, Youth Wing, Students’ Islamic Organization (SIO) and Medical Service Society (MSS). These volunteers have not only distributed cooked food, medicines, bottled water and blankets, but they have also cleaned wells, roads, schools and residential buildings and houses so as to make them usable.

Members of the Ideal Relief Wing have been professionally trained to work in such emergency relief operations.

Under the directions of JIH Maharashtra, a team of 17 members of the Youth Wing, IRW, MSS and SIO from Mumbai and Mumbra reached Chiplun on the 24th of July with two truckloads of relief material. They were followed in quick succession by several teams from Mumbai, Solapur, Parli, Pune, Nagpur, Nanded and other cities. These volunteers, affiliated with JIH and its sister organizations, spread out across Chiplun to provide necessary relief. They are still on the ground, engaged in all sorts of relief work.

On Emergency Basis Jamaat had done survey in Chiplun, Murad Nagar,Rajewadi, Kondeote and provided 1500 kitchen kits sets.

Till date, JIH has been able to distribute 3400 bottles of water, 4200 food packets, ration to 500 families, medicines and 1500 emergency lights. More than one lakh rupees has been offered as emergency aid to some forty families. 14 wells and 7 water tanks have been cleaned in Chiplun. Several schools, buildings and masajid have also been cleaned.

There is always a high risk of epidemics breaking out in the aftermath of such floods. Hence, JIH has set up a medical camp there. A mobile medical van is also being used to address the health concerns of the affected populace. More than 500 patients have benefitted from this endeavor.

Fifty houses each of Mahad and Rajewadi have been surveyed. Cleaning material has been provided to more than 800 families.

JIH has appealed to all the people to loosen their purse strings and contribute in this relief work.
