With the intention of following the Prophet’s example (may peace and blessings be upon him), Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mira Road had on Saturday evening, 6th of July, arranged for a special program to welcome the auspicious month of Ramzan, titled ‘Istaqbal e Ramzan’. Two guest speakers, Maulana Shameem Akhtar Nadvi from Vasai and Mr. Zafar Ansari from Mumbra enlightened the audience with regards to the importance of Ramzan, its blessings and our intended role in it.

While highlighting the purpose of the oncoming fasts, Maulana Shameem Akhtar Nadvi said that the fasts help infuse piety in the faithful and train them to abstain from divine prohibitions all their lives just as they keep them away from even the permitted deeds (viz. eating, drinking and sexual intercourse) during the period of fasting. Thus, the fasts make the faithful more God-conscious in their everyday dealings. He also dwelt on the merits of feeding the deprived ones of our society and encouraged the initiative of the Jamat to distribute ration kits among the needy.

On the other hand, Mr. Zafar Ansari pointed out that the month of Ramzan can only benefit those people whose hearts are receptive towards its blessings and are not hardened or perverted. He roused the believers to forsake fun and frolic during Ramzan and instead devote their precious time to reciting and understanding the Qur’an, prayers and supplications and inculcate in themselves the qualities of patience and brotherhood. He urged the faithful to use this month to transform their lives for the better and shun whatever sins they have been practicing to date.

The program reached its conclusion with supplications towards Allah to forgive our misgivings, help us in our pursuits of piety and help all Muslims around the world, especially in strife-torn areas.
