Statement by Alliance Against CAA, NRC & NPR

Posted on 27 February 2020 by Webmaster JIH Maharashtra

Police discriminated against minority community during Delhi communal violence, errant politicians and officers must be booked

We strongly condemn the communal violence raging in Delhi since last three days. We regret the deaths of 34 people belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities, including a policeman and an IB personnel, who are reported to have been killed in the violence.
The current movement against the CAA, NPR and NRC across the country has been very peaceful and in accordance with Gandhiji’s philosophy of non-violence. We are against all forms of violence.
It has been witnessed that some politicians have openly instigated the violence in Delhi. Delhi Police has failed to control the rioting in the city. Armed gangs were murdering and setting fire to properties as the police remained a mute spectator. The machinery responsible for maintaining law and order seems to be completely paralyzed, which is a cause for concern.
Some videos have even shown the police even conspiring and facilitating the with rioters. It has been seen that the police are acting in a discriminatory manner against the minority community. The dubious and prejudiced character of Delhi Police is dangerous for a post-modern society like India. Its actions don’t bode well for the security of the country.

In view of the violence in Delhi, here are some of our demands, which will be presented to Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari on Thursday evening:

– BJP leaders Anurag Thakur, Parish Verma, Kapil Mishra and others responsible for the provocation should be arrested and prosecuted immediately.
– Action should be taken against the errant police personnel, who, instead of performing duties, either remained silent spectators or appeared to be helping the rioters.
– The Chief Minister, along with members of Parliament, Delhi Assembly, prominent social and religious leaders should visit the riot-affected areas and appeal for peace and order.
– Curfew should be imposed in the areas where violence is still on.
– The police should take action against the lawbreakers and the perpetrators of violence, irrespective of their religious and political affiliations.
– The police should take action against their officers who oppressed citizens, women and children.
– Some individuals and news channels that are directly inciting hatred and violence should also be prosecuted.
– Police protection should be provided to all the anti-CAA protests across the country, especially Shaheen Bagh agitation, so that they are not harmed by the hostile elements of society.
– Conduct a high-level judicial inquiry into the violence.

Alliance Against CAA, NRC & NPR is a united front of individuals and organisations that are active against the discriminatory citizenship measures of the government. The Alliance’s Mumbai chapter recently organized a grand rally at the city’s Azad Maidan, and has also urged state government to stop the NPR
